Stopping Online Predators | How To Protect Your Child From Sex Offenders

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

There are a lot of sick individuals in the world who prey on young children. They try to seek out the friendship of those who are young and then pounce on them when they let their guard down. The first thing that you have to do is accept that there is a problem and then accept that there may be someone who wants to prey on your family.

This is the first step towards realizing that you have to protect your family from the dangers of those who would like to harm others. To protect yourself from sex offenders and online predators you will have to be aware of the many ways that they can bring themselves into the picture.

One way to protect your child from sex offenders is to teach them how to use the Internet in a safe and secure way. Many kids want to use their time to talk to their friends, they can reach out to others; however, others can reach out to them. There are ways that you can protect your child.

You may want to purchase software that will block your children from seeing vulgar things and also you’ll be able to monitor what they see and do online. That can be an effective way to protect your children from online predators.

There are other ways that you can teach your children about sex offenders, you may also want to talk to them about how they can protect themselves even if they mess up. Tell your children that even if they do give out their private information and slip, they need to tell you so that you can take care of the situation.

You will also want to make sure that they know what to do if they ever find themselves being abducted - for instance, they can put up a struggle and scream or draw attention to their situation. It is very important to talk to them about how they can protect themselves from child sex offenders and other people who may want to harm them.

In summary, talk to your children about using instant message and chat software and still keep themselves safe. Tell them that they cannot speak to others online who they do not know and that they are not allowed to leave the public chat rooms for private rooms. You and your family need to be able to use your computer without having to worry how a sexual predator could affect your children.

Stopping Online Predators | Internet Predators Invading Your Home

A lot of people don’t realize that there are some online who want to invade your home. Obviously, you don’t want to have these strangers invade your home and your privacy. You want to be able to go online and do a little bit of research before you allow your children to go online unsupervised. You should learn more about the statistics and how to keep your family safe from the internet predators who may want to pry on the young and vulnerable.

There are many dangers inside and outside of the home. The connectivity of the internet has brought some of the outside dangers closer. Hope is not lost, there are things you can do to reduce the risk to you and your family.

A good place to start would be to have a family discussion. You need to sit down and explain to them about how to use the internet and how they can use the net safely. You will want to come up with a list of guideline for internet usage. These rules will allow you to explain your expectations and ultimately protect your family from internet predators.

You will also want to take into consideration ways you can get the family to see all the harms they could encounter on the net. Tell your kids what could happen and what you’re trying to do to protect your family. A list of “what ifs” should help keep your family safe by making them aware of the potential dangers posed by online stalkers.

Talking about the problem of internet predators is valuable; but you will also want to do some things to best protect your children. For instance, you can install various software solutions that will block certain sites that are vulgar and/or pornographic. In addition, you can also use other certain types of computer monitoring software that will make a list of things that were recently viewed, when they were viewed and the person who opened up such sites.

You may also want to think about where you place the computer. It’s a good idea to place it in a room where everyone is welcomed. As a parent, you have the right to go in and see what they are doing online. You may also want to read a few lines and/or look for key words that would tell you what your child is up to.

Lastly, make sure that you tell the kids that there are punishments for stepping outside of the family safe surfing guidelines. Make sure that your entire family is aware of the dangers and pledge to work together to keep the dangers of internet predators at bay.

How the police monitor online predators

There are many people with access to the internet - and more people are getting online everyday. While many people are safe - there are some that are sex offenders and some of them may live in your area. There are sex offenders all over the world and you never know who may be in your own backyard. You must do your part to you protect yourself. In some areas, the local government has established task forces that will help protect you from some of these online predators.

In an attempt to lower the crimes committed over the net and help protect their people, some areas may have what is called an Internet crimes unit. Here they will take the opportunity to look at many areas of Internet crimes. They may also have a small task force focused on sex crimes and the net. They may carry out sting operations and try to capture those who are online looking for prey and keep them away from our children.

If you find that your child has been talking to someone and they are taking things to a sexual level with your child, you will find that the police will take this very seriously. They can begin to monitor your child’s instant messages. This may lead to legal action and an arrest for the person who is stalking them online. The police are beginning to take things of this nature very seriously. They are trying to make their communities a safer place by stopping online predators.

Police can also monitor previous sexual predators under the Meagan’s Law. A little girl went missing one day and it was later determined to be a sexual predator who had previously been arrested for a sex crime - so they came up with Meagan’s Law. Convicted sex offenders are supposed to register with the police where they live. Every town has the right to know who is moving in. The townspeople can look up the addresses of such people and maybe see the pictures of many - online.

This is just one of the ways that the local authorities can help you to protect yourself and protect your children from the harm of online predators. Remember that some predators who find their victims through the internet will be willing to travel so that they are less likely to be a suspect.

The police are doing as much as they can to protect your family, however, you have the right and the responsibility to protect your family as well. Make sure that you try to do everything that you can to keep your children away from online predators. You will have to teach them about the dangers of internet predators - and how to properly handle themselves online. Remember to tell your children how they can stay safe by not giving out there specific contact information.

Stopping Online Predators | How do online predators work?

If you like to go into chat rooms or for those who have children, you may want to know more about how online predators work. It’s important to know these things for the simple fact that internet stalkers don’t just prey on young children; anyone can become the victim of an online predator. In addition, it’s not just men - a woman can be an internet predator too. Anyone could be an online predator and you may even find one or two of the people that you talk to, may in actual fact be an internet stalker.

Here’s how predators often work; they will try to get a potential victim to talk to them in chat rooms, by email, or through instant messaging. There are many teens that are targeted in such areas, but online predators always look for people who are vulnerable. They will try to get you to trust them, and try to do it quickly. They will try to establish a connection to the person within the first fifteen minutes.

An internet predator will try to seduce their potential victim through the attention they give and the amount of effort and time they spend communicating. They may gradually try to introduce sexual content into their conversations or send some sexually graphic material. This person will also try to show some interest in the things that you like; for instance - music, movies, hobbies and more. Some people who work quickly trying to get a “date.” Some people will talk to you for weeks before they move into sexual topics. They all will want to meet you offline at some point - and that is where you can really put yourself at risk.

You do not want to give out any information that could lead others to you directly or indirectly. Directly, would be telling the person your full name or address, but indirectly would be through the various sites online with your information on it. You do not want to encourage the stalker’s means of hurting you.

Teens are targeted most often because they are very vulnerable. They are at risk for online predators because they long for someone to take an interest in them or for someone to show them some attention. You may be able to save your children from online predators by simply making them feel important and giving them your attention when they need it or want it.

You should know that anyone online could be a predator. Likewise, anyone online could find themselves the victim of an online predator. Regardless of your age or gender - you still could be at risk. It’s not just teens that are at risk and it’s not just girls. There are some women predators, although that is rare. When you go online you are opening up the world. Your chances of becoming the target of an online predator will increase.

So please exercise caution and common sense.

Stopping Sexual Predators | Dating Safely Online

As you are probably aware, you can find a lot of great people online. There are lots of people who have been lucky enough to find old friends, make new friends and enter into romantic relationships
online too. You could potentially find millions of interesting people who may want to meet; however, you must consider your safety before you go out on a date. There are also a lot of bad people who are online looking for someone they can take advantage of and some of them are sexual predators.

First, you need to trust your gut feeling. If you feel uneasy about this person for some reason, even though they seem to be nice, you may want to slow the relationship down or even end things before the relationship really gets too serious. Many people will get a feeling that something is wrong - you should trust your gut feeling.

Secondly, you will not want to provide any of your personal information too soon. You will want to make sure that you don’t get too attached too quickly - you could end up getting yourself in a lot of trouble. It only takes a few bits of information to find out where someone is. You don’t want to put yourself in such a precarious position.

Tip: Consider doing a search on Google for any information you plan to provide - before you provide it. Make sure that you’re protecting your privacy until you’ve established some trust.

Thirdly, you should use a free email account (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.). This will allow you to become relatively untraceable. You will then want to make sure that you don’t give all the information that is asked for, only what it really needed; for instance, you don’t want to put your full name or full contact information. Just make sure that you give enough information to register.

You will also want to make sure that you use a cell phone or even a number that is blocked when it comes to talking to them. They can easily track down your home or work from a phone number.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of people who will abuse the system. Even someone who seems like a nice guy or a nice girl can turn out to be a nightmare. You just need to make sure that you are making the right choice, and it takes time to build trust. Be leary of anyone who tries to rush things - this can be a red flag.

Stand back and look at whether or not this is a nice place to start a friendship - you may be able to prevent yourself from being a victim of an online predator. You may think that it’s weird for someone to go through the whole online process just to hurt someone, but the thing is that there are people who will. You do not want to test these types of people. You never know who may end up being an internet predator. So - be careful.

Dateline and Stopping Online Offenders

Dateline is one of the news shows that exposes the online dangers that we need to be aware of. They have aired numerous shows about online offenders. The premise of the show is this: they have someone pose as an under age boy or girl and then they bust online predators when they go to their house to have some kind of inappropriate contact with a minor. They really do arrest them and they are charged with criminal offenses. This is a great show, because it proves that there are people living in your backyard with tendencies to molest children. Even if it is a 16 yr old, the person is still a child. They have not gone through high school. They have not even celebrated their legal independence. It’s just wrong!

Dateline and other online offender shows are trying to make the public aware that we need to protect our children. You will find that they move the show all the time and they might show up just down the road from you.  There are certainly some audacious sex offenders. You have no idea what they are capable of. You just need to think about whether or not that could have been your daughter or you son.

Dateline usually arrests just men (men of all ages too), however, they have had leads towards women, but no arrests. The reason behind this is that they do not take it as far as coming to the house for sex. They just make inappropriate talk. Just because Dateline is not catching women too often, doesn’t mean that they are not predators. You need to keep in mind that a son needs protection just as much as a daughter from these people.

Dateline has been a great help. They’ve opened the public’s eyes to this problem and have gotten the attention of the government. They are now setting up task forces that will do the same thing. In these stings, they will bust twenty people at a time. That is twenty less predators after your child. It has really taken a bite out of sex crimes. Fewer people are going online for looking for prey because it could be a set up. Everyone is worried if it is Dateline coming after them. The predators are watching their backs because they do not want their mug posted on National TV.

The more that Dateline airs these shows, the more people are going to feel protected. There are websites where you can see if there are online predators in your home town. You should look them up. Tell your children to avoid any people who look like this and that they need to be very careful and check in with you periodically. With a sex offender in your town, you will need to make sure that your children come home and leave in groups. It’s just not safe to be out alone.
