Stopping Online Predators | A Danger Within The Home

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

There are a lot of dangers outside of the home that may put you and your children at a statistical risk. However, there are many dangers inside of your home that you may not even be aware of. You cannot allow yourself to become a victim of an online predator. You will want to make sure that you keep the dangers that are found online at a distance. You will need to learn how to communicate to your children and learn how to protect them from inside of your home.

There are police task forces that recognize the need for protection, however, protection inside the home, starts inside of the home. You need to make sure that you protect yourself, while at the same time - learning the net so that you can find new friends, learn new cultures, and use the tools of the net.

There are a lot of people who will make use of some of the Internet tools like instant messaging and chat rooms. They can always be good fun when it comes to the times where work is slow or when you are just bored at home. However, you need to make sure that you take the opportunity to learn how you can use these tools safely.

First, you will want to make sure that you do not give out any information that may lead to harm. This means that you don’t want to give someone your full name or a general idea of where you may live. You can say things like Aaron, from PA, however don’t say your full name and address because it can come back to haunt you.

There are many ways that you can give out some information without giving out specific information. You can answer the questions that you are asked, without naming specifics. You will find there are many things you can do to make friends, without finding or encouraging the predators.

Secondly, you have to approach everyone like they are a predator. You have to constantly be on your toes and never let your guard down. The minute that you allow others to get to you and to know things like your name and location, you are putting yourself in jeopardy of them hunting you down and maybe hurting you.

As a parent, it is very important that you teach your children about internet safety and keep the lines of communication open with them. You don’t want to give them any reason that may make them want to run to others for support and help. You don’t want to have anyone feel vulnerable. You need to make sure that you take into consideration that your child needs you and there are going to be times that you need to listen. This will make them less likely to go online and become a victim of a predator.

Stopping Online Predators | Computer Monitoring Software

There are many ways that you can help protect your children from online predators. Rules can be set, and guidelines can be followed - but they will only go so far. There are some online who are disturbed and their intention is to hurt others. An online predator may try to hurt your family and may end up getting access to your home through the computer.

It is wise to talk to your children about online predators. You will also want to tell them how they can keep themselves safe. You will need to show them about how they can protect themselves when online, but you may also feel better if you have computer monitoring software.

This software will not necessarily keep every predator away from your family, but it can let you know if your children are doing things online that they shouldn’t. Another thing you may notice: there are people who will end up preying on others though the use of different social networking sites (myspace.com, yahoo.com) and communication tools like instant messaging and/or chat.

With some internet monitoring software, you can put a block on such things. You can simply block certain sites and even instant messaging/chat applications. By limiting those sites and funtions - you won’t have to worry about your children making the wrong choices. For password protected monitoring software, it’s important to keep your password hidden and secure. Children may try to crack the code and get on the sites if they are really motivated. That is why you may just want to use random letters and numbers for your password. You do not want them to figure it out by putting in your anniversary, for instance. That would be too obvious.

It’s important to talk to your children too. Make sure they realize that this is something you are doing to protect them. Do everything in your power to keep them safe. Children most likely don’t understand all of the dangers that could be encountered on the internet and you need to make sure that they understand that they may find themselves in a dangerous place. Don’t allow them to take over the computer without at least having a clue as to what they are doing. Children tend to find dangers very easily. With the monitoring software, you can protect your family.

You can purchase internet monitoring software online or offline and it is very easy to set up. You will want to keep this in mind when it comes to protecting your family. It is inexpensive, it’s simple, and you can rest assured this will help you protect your family. It is something that every parent should consider if they have young children and teens on the computer for entertainment purposes. However, you will still need to set the rules down and you will want to enforce them as well.
