Call me “Newbie.”
I’ve seen the word “TrackBack.” I just never really paid much attention and never really tried to figure out how to use them.
Earlier today, it was starting to annoy me - so I did a quick search and found this little gem: “How to use Trackbacks to Promote Your Blog”
See what I did there - that was step one. I started writing my post, mentioned the other blog and included a link back to them.
For the next step, I need to locate the trackback url from their page . . . okay, located, copied and pasted into my TrackBack URLs field.
And now, I’m ready to post. Simple enough - I just hadn’t seen it laid out so simply before.
Big thanks to Susan and Janice for an explanation that was easy enough a newbie like me could follow it…
I still consider myself new to blogging. I think the idea is to try to post fresh content on a regular basis - but it’s easy to get distracted and pulled in various directions.
I like to do research. I like to “go deep” on certain subjects. I also enjoy scanning through my RSS feeds to see the latest rumblings throughout the blogosphere. I get caught up on the tech side of things to - especially my search engine rankings. So, I’m on the prowl for tools that help me make better use of my time.
Here’s one that let’s you check your search rankings in Google, Ask, Yahoo and MSN without having to go to each individual engine. Just type your site’s URL into the Rank Checker tool. (Not an affiliate link.)
You can get valuable ranking information and track your progress as you optimize your website. There is a paid option, but so far - the free account has been good enough for me.

People don’t like repetitive things - neither do search engines. If you’re trying to improve your website optimization by creating stellar content, you’re probably making progress. However, even if your pages are differentiated from the rest of the web, the search engines may decide that they look like each other.
Similar Page Checker lets you determine the exact percentage of similarity between any two web pages. Simply enter both URLs and you’ll be well on your way to eliminating overlap and getting the best possible search ranking.

Good question - If you could see your site the way the search engine bots do, would that help you race to the top of the search engine pile!
Seeing your site the way the bots do can help you make sure that “bot traps” are not in your site’s code. This can do wonders for your organic search rankings and your website optimization.
Search bots are looking for two things when they spider a site - text and links - did you catch that - text and links. These are the cornerstone of successful search engine rankings.
A “spider-able” site will ALWAYS be more successful than a “non-spider-able” site. If you’d like to see your site the same way the search engine bots do, take a look at this Spider Viewer:

It’s important to know that your website is listed in the search engine. It’s even more important to make sure it’s listed correctly. An effective tool called the “Google Site Status Wizard” can help
you find out.
